Meet Maja Biondić from Art Colony
For the first time in BIG BERRY’s young history, we are going to expand one of our main projects internationally. During a week, BB Team is bringing a new BB Artist Maja Biondić for the Art Colony Project to Wies in Austria, our new destination. We had the chance to talk to her about her life and work before her trip.
Maja is a professional illustrator and graphic designer from Rijeka with a masters degree in illustration from Osijek’s Academy of Arts. Her job is very connected to a specific topic, for example illustration related to textual support, which is why she loves it so much. It is always something new and different filled with interpretation from different experiences such as reading, discovering the world or the movies. For example, her favorite movie is “La vita e bella”. This masterpiece shows how hard times and war can be changed into something better by someone because of his/ her ability to see things differently.
This idea follows Maja in her work and her idea of freedom which is basically: ”not having any possessions, just live and travel.”
She decided then to participate in the BB Art Colony Project which will provide her with the chance to do what she likes: to draw and be in nature. She got very excited upon seeing the mural made by ojoMAGico in BIG BERRY Kolpa River, and it was her favorite one.
This will be her first time that she is doing something this big. A real experience with the opportunity of being in total immersion and introspective artistic experience: “I think I will go to sleep and just think of what I will do the other day and how it is going to turn out in the end”. It is also an opportunity to not control everything and just let herself be free.
The sketch is already done but the environment will also influence the creation: “it’s a woman, a bird and a fox. Behind is a cloud made of plants and flowers. It’s my way of representing freedom, connecting visually all these elements, nature and animals”.
Maja is usually using pencils and ink pen, but also digital illustration. She focuses her work on black and white or three-color illustrations. But lately she decided to use more colors and now she has the chance with BB Art Colony to expand her new style with this huge painted mural on our BB House.
This is quite an experience for her even though she had many others, like volunteering six months in Hungary, in European Volunteering Service. She had, for example, the chance to go to some personal development projects and workshops followed by a hitchhiking trip through Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania and Croatia.
We are so thrilled to see her creation in our new BB Destination!
