Luxury of freedom

Romania at first world war exhibition

Together with the Romanian Cultural Institute, the National Army Museum in London is hosting a temporary display showing Romania’s participation in the First World War. The display shows the years of neutrality (1914-1916), the fierce battles of 1916 on the Entente side, the painful retreat to Moldavia and the striking victories of 1917. As the last historical event it shows the momentous victory of 1918, which offered a strategic foundation to the political unification of all Romanian provinces and the creation of a modern, democratic state.

The display is a representation of the time of hope, heroism and tragedy in various different forms such as photographs, maps, uniforms and different objects including the original First World War medals. It is commemorating the end of the Great War and the unification of all Romanian provinces in 1918. The exhibition can be visited from 15th June to 15th July 2018.
