Have you ever experienced going to a place where you will be able to visit a Partisan Museum, sleep on hay and be given home-made cookies altogether? This is just a small part of the activities that Peka Peciva Šraijf offers. Just outside Metlika, one is able to enjoy a natural environment and find out more about Slovenia’s history via the hosts’ various stories, pictures and other historical objects that are laid out. Despite the tour at the museum, you are able to walk to the source of Krupa River and the motocross track, which is also nearby.
Šraijf is based on being able to feel the home comfort by enjoying homemade delicacies. Sonya, the lady who takes care of the place along with her husband, says it is all about feeling the domestic taste. She makes various kinds of pastries – with walnuts, vegetables, fruits, chocolate and cottage cheese. “We bake around 1400 cookies per session”, Sonya shared.
People find her pastries tasty and she enjoys giving them a reason to smile. "I was never taught how to make pastries. Nobody gave me a recipe or told me some dessert tricks. All I have learnt is based on my own experience. And I don’t think of it as a job, it is actually my hobby."
Per each type of pastry, she also uses another type of flour – white, corn, buckwheat or also spelt. This gives the visitors a chance to try many types of pastry and each is able to find the one that fits their taste best. “What makes me happy is knowing that we sell natural, home-made products - without any artificial sweeteners or additional sugar substitutes. If anyone asks me for a certain recipe, I will gladly share with them. I have nothing to hide”, she added.
