May 18th, 2016 marked a special day in the Belokranjski muzej. In celebration of the International Museum Day, they organised a sewing workshop for children. The children at the age of 5-6 years learned about different kinds of needles that were used since 8 BC and are displayed in the museum. The second part of the workshop was the actual sewing. The children cut out squares of fabric and sewed them on bags, using the kind of stitches they had learned before. Everyone was very concentrated and tried their best to attach the pocket with neat seams.
The International Museum Day is celebrated throughout the world each year in may to show the importance of museums in the matter of cultural exchanges, cultural enrichment and the develpoment of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among people.In 2015, more than 35.000 museums participated in the event in around 145 countries. Each museum can decdie to create an even for one day, a weekend or even a whole week. (source: ICOM)
