Luxury of freedom

Hohensalzburg Fortress

Hohensalzburg Fortress is the biggest fully preserved castle in Central Europe. If you want to know how it really feels like to be in a castle, you cannot skip this spot.

Built in 1077, under Archbishop Gebhard command, the appearance it has today is the result of the changes made by the archbishop Leonhard von Keutschach in 1500.

To go up there you can either go by foot or hide the fortress funicular (“Festungsbahn”) from the Festungsgasse.
