Nikola Bašić - The Sounds of the Sea

It is a true attraction the city Zadar in Croatia has to offer thanks to Nikola Bašić. Zadar's boardwalk was completely destroyed after World War II and reconsctructed as a long concrete shoreline. After the turn of the millenium a project called "nova river" kicked of that aimed to reshape the shoreline. Nikola Bašić, who graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism in Sarajevo, presented the idea of the sea organ. The idea is that water and wind enter through holes at the bottom of the steps and are then channeled into resonating chambers. The sounds from these chambers extr through holes along the highest steps. That way the energy of wind and water of the Adriatic sea create soothing and harmonised sounds.
