Luxury of freedom

Salzburg Rezidenzplatz

The Old Residenz in the old town of the city of Salzburg is the forester's episcopal palace complex. The extensive building is located between today's square, the Residenzplatz and today's Sigmund-Haffner-alley and was first documented around 1120. New buildings were built mainly in the 15th and 16th centuries, especially under archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau. The tract against the Old Market was erected under the supervision of Markus Sittikus, the one around the main house was completed under Paris Lodron, elevated under Guidobald of Thun and Hohenstein, and reassembled under Franz Anton Graf von Harrach. On the opposite side of the Residenzplatz is the Neue Residenz.
