BIG BERRY House Replica flying to Korea
Did you know that the hayracks (In Slovenian “kozolec”) are regarded as a distinctive form of vernacular architecture that marks Slovene identity? Did you know that BIG BERRY & Hosekra are involved in the newest global project by the architects Gregorc Vrhovec? Did you read that BIG BERRY team is going to the Winter Olympic Games in Korea?
You must be asking yourself, what is connection here? Well, starting from the cultural aspect, the architectural structure of the Slovenian House build for Olympic Games 2018 is inspired by the traditional Slovenian symbol, hayrack (“kozolec”). This simple but heavy structure, currently being built in Hosekra, will carry long Slovene tradition all the way to Korea in February 2018. After being introduced to this project, BIG BERRY found out even more amazing story happening in Slovenia.
Iztok Oblak, the perfectionist and one of the most patient people ever spends around 8 hours daily cutting, gluing and grinding small pieces of wood to make hayrack replicas that still exist all over the country. He spends around 500 hours on building one such house with all the tiniest details, from windows, doors, ladders to toilete spaces. In 15 years of self-taught delicate carpenter work, he built over 40 hayracks.
