Luxury of freedom

Viktring Abbey

On the southwestern outskirts of Klagenfurt, the borough of Viktring is known for its 12th-century Cistercian abbey (Stift-Viktring). Founded in 1142 and dissolved in 1786, Viktring is one of the most important - and largest - abbey buildings in Carinthia. It's particularly well known for its two beautiful arcaded courtyards. Also of note is its Early Gothic church with Burgundian pointed vaulting, while in the choir is Viktring's main attraction, the superb stained glass dating from the very early 1400s and depicting the Twelve Apostles.
