Baby dragons hatch in Postojna Cave

Postojna Cave is experiencing a rare natural wonder. Two olms hatched there in the last weeks. This is truly amazing because even though a female olm lays hundres of eggs in her life, on average only two survive to grow up. Scientists believe that these olms can live up to 100 years or even longer. What is even more astonishing is that the baby dragons can survive without food for up to 10 years. Although their visual sense is not very strong since their eyes are covered by their white skin, they can dectect light and electrical or magnetic fields through hearing and smelling.

With more exciting hatches to be expected, work is required in the cave. The "baby dragons" will soon need to be fed since they are not living in their natural environment to feed themselves. To avoid infection, the water will have to be changes regulary. Each "baby dragon" will need its own aquarium and proper nursery for them to be able to grow into adults.
