North Korea Will Take Part In Winter Olympics in PyeongChang

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during his New Year's speech announced the participation of North Korea at Winter Olympics in PyeongChang this February. "We hope that the winter games will be successful," said the North Korean leader.

Kim said in a state television that certain steps need to be taken and added that both Koreas should start discussing it immediately. At the same time, he pointed out that both countries should strive for improvement of the mutual relations on the Korean peninsula.

It is still not clear what will be the North Korean delegation at this year's Winter Games in February. So far, only the art skaters Ryom Tae Ok and Kim Ju Sik have been included in the games, but this year they did not apply on time. The performance of North Korea is also supported by the International Olympic Committee. "We will check the statements of the North Korean leadership without any prejudice," said the representative of Moka.

Also in South Korea they hope that the delegation of the neighbor country will participate, especially after the recent tightening of relations due to the North Korean nuclear program. Among other things, in recent weeks, the so-called "wild card" for North Korean athletes was also mentioned. North Korea's announcement today also welcomed the authorities in Seoul, where they are sure that the games will also contribute to reconciliation on the Korean peninsula and are therefore they are ready for negotiations.
