Museum of Bela Krajina

Located in Metlika's castle, the Museum of Bela Krajina features an exhibition about life in the region of Bela Krajina from prehistoric times to the mid-20th century. It was opened in 1951 and takes care of the movable cultural heritage of Bela krajina. Guests are introduced by a short film about Bela krajina and then enter to the three permanent exhibitons in Metlika. It shows an archaelogical collection from the oldest settlements in Bela krajina, moves on to the history of the region from around 1200, including the foundation of Metlika, and concludes with an insight into the Belokranjcev life in the 19th and 20th century. The museum also features two smaller exhibitions on Vinica and Semič. Vinica focuses on collection of Belokranjski scientiests and artists whereas the collection in Semič shows the history of Semič and it's surrounding towns.
