Awards For The Most Dedicated Volunteers

On the International Day of Volunteering, the President of the National Council, Mitja Bervar, handed out the awards to the most dedicated social workers - volunteers from different fields of activity.

In his addressed, among other things, that the state institutions are often not able of doing everything that volunteers can. Many countries have recognized that volunteering directly contributes to a higher quality of life. Therefore, the further development of the voluntary sector must be in the interest of the state and citizens of the Republic of Slovenia. The volunteer recognizes problems or troubles and also knows how to offer the answers and solutions. In the National Council voluntary work is considered primarily as a challenge for individuals, government, media, and educational institutions, churches, NGOs and companies to promote and support the healthy relationships which are the foundation of a healthy society.

As a link between civil society and the state, the State Council has the need to highlight the importance of volunteering for a better society and better relationships between people. Volunteering is the most important instrument of civil society at the moment, to support and strengthen human values, community, to care and help - it is an instrument for overcoming racial, national, social and other diversities, obstacles and prejudices, as Mitja Bervar emphasized.

Among the winners was Branko Recek, who was nominated for recognition by the Olympic Committee of Slovenia. Through his years of volunteering, Branko Recek has left an indelible mark on the development of social sport in Slovenia, especially in Pomurje.
After completing his active career in the local football clubs, he continued his work in sports clubs. He was also the initiator and organizer of many sports and recreational projects that took place in the Pomurje region and founder of the Moravske Toplice Municipal Sports Association, where he has been a president for five mandates already. He also served five four-year mandates in the bodies of the Olympic Committee of Slovenia - Association of Sports Federations, where he made a significant contribution to by promoting sport for all civil society sports organizations in Slovenia.

Miran Müllner, a member of the Sports Council for Sport for All at the Olympic Committee of Slovenia, also received a recognition for volunteer work. After completing his competitive career, he dedicated himself to sports work in 1995. He was a Vice-President of the Intermunicipal Football Association Nova Gorica for three mandates and a member of the Football Commission of the Football Association of Slovenia. He also actively participated in various functions at the football club and soccer club of the Football Association Gorica. In recognition of his contribution to the development of sport in Slovenia, he was awarded by the Olympic Committee of Slovenia.
