12 US paratroopers injured during night jump in Romania

A total of 12 American soldiers were injured during a nighttime parachute jump performed within the Swift Response 17-1 military drill organized at Campia Turzii Air Base 71 in Romania.

The incident occurred on Friday, July 21. All 12 paratroopers were hospitalized at the Military Hospital in Cluj-Napoca.

Fortunately, they only suffered minor injuries and 11 of them left the hospital the next day, reports local Mediafax. The soldier who remained in the hospital suffered a bruised spine and should also leave the hospital this week.

The Swift Response 17-1 military drill was organized between July 18 and July 23, is a support exercise for the Saber Guardian 2017 multinational drill. Forces of American regiments 143 Infantry Texas and 2 Cavalry, as well as MiG-21 LanceR and IAR-330 Socat aircraft and troops and technical equipment of the Romanian Air Forces, and armored amphibious carriers and Gepard anti-aircraft defense systems participated in the drill.
