The Smiths - Team up with PETA to save virtual pigs & cows

In case you've been living under a rock, The Smiths are a famous English rock band said to be the "one truly vital voice of the 80s". They've recently teamed up with PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, to create a new app called "This Beautiful Creature Must Die". It is a vintage arcade-style interpretation of the band's classic 1985 song "Meat Is Murder." The goal of the dark game is to have players save virtual chickens, cows, pigs and turkeys from slaughter by tapping them before they hit the bottom of the screen – all while avoiding falling bombs. The mobile-friendly game plays the feel-good song "Meat Is Murder" in the background while the player heroically saves the animals from slaughter. You can download the game on your phone application store and it's available for free at the PETA website.

The Smiths singer, Morrissey, is a longtime vegan and animal rights activist and really encouraged fans to grasp the project's underlying message: "This game is the biggest social crusade of all, as we safeguard the weak and helpless from violent human aggression," he said in a statement. "You don't get that from Pokémon Go." PETA has previously created online parodies of Pokémon, Super Mario Bros., Cooking Mama and more, but the Smiths team-up is the organization's first to be made available via iPhones and Androids. Furthermore, PETA Vice President of Marketing, Joel Bartlett, hopes that the game will inspire it's users to take the leap from virtually saving animals, to doing it in real life and adopting a vegan lifestyle.
