Fairytale Lake Bled

A trip to lake Bled in northwestern Slovenia can become one of the most wonderful experiences in person’s life. Crystal clear water, green forests, gothic architecture on the lonely island facing mountains -- this is a heaven on earth!

Bled is notorious for holding World Rowing Championships for four times: in 1966, 1979, 1989 and 2011.

One can also come across marvelous examples of architecture near Bled. The most famous is the pilgrimage church dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, which was built in nearly the 17th century. The church is decorated with remains of Gothic frescos, which date back to around 1470 as well as rich Baroque equipment. Inside the building one can also find a mystical Baroque stairway, which is around 4 centuries old. There is an old tradition in Slovenia, which considers it to be a good luck for the groom to carry his bride up the steps on the day of their wedding before the bell rings. Furthermore, traditionally Slovenians believe that making a wish inside the church will ensure that the wish comes true.

The lake is surrounded by fairytale forests and high mountains, which make the whole area resemble a truly utopian world!
